The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust

What we fund

The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust funds United Kingdom Registered Charities operating in the UK in the fields of the advancement of the arts, health and medical welfare and environmental protection or improvement – please read specific areas of interest and priorities for support in our Downloadable Guidelines

The majority of the Trust’s grants are single grants over a one-year period.   Occasionally longer-term grants (usually up to 3 years) are agreed by the Trustees when deemed to have particular merit.

The Trustees will consider applications for core costs or projects, and they also consider applications for matched funding.

Rhythmix supports well-being in healthcare by creating environments that make people feel safe and by encouraging a healthcare culture that helps staff interact with the person, as well as treating the health condition.   The whole community around the patient is supported, including families, caregivers and staff in interactions with the aim to improve the overall soundscape of hospital wards.

Wishing Well, Rhythmix’s Music in Healthcare programme, works in Children’s Hospitals with long term patients with complex needs;  Special Care Baby Units;  Children’s wards focusing on short term patients and surgery recovery;  End of Life and Respite Care in Hospices; and Residential Dementia Assessment Wards for older people with advanced dementia.

A grant from the Trust is currently supporting interactive music making in five healthcare settings in Sussex for people with dementia.
