The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust

What we fund

The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust funds United Kingdom Registered Charities operating in the UK in the fields of the advancement of the arts, health and medical welfare and environmental protection or improvement – please read specific areas of interest and priorities for support in our Downloadable Guidelines

The majority of the Trust’s grants are single grants over a one-year period.   Occasionally longer-term grants (usually up to 3 years) are agreed by the Trustees when deemed to have particular merit.

The Trustees will consider applications for core costs or projects, and they also consider applications for matched funding.

A recent grant has supported the Roundhouse Trust’s OnTrack intensive 6 week music project for young people aged 16-25 who are not in education, employment, or training and who are typically experiencing some form of social or economic disadvantage. Participants are mentored by industry professionals and provided with 3 days of expert tuition per week in order to write collaboratively, practise and record original music before going on to perform a live showcase on a Roundhouse stage.

As well as offering participants the chance to grow creatively, the course places emphasis on developing core life skills such as teamwork and communication, time and project management, and self-confidence, helping them to progress into education, employment or training and secure economic wellbeing. Skills obtained during the project can also go towards an Arts Award accreditation which all participants are encouraged to undertake, providing them with a recognised qualification at the end of the six weeks.
